Oh, how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day. ~Psalm 119:97
I wonder how many Christians can honestly say they love God’s law, let alone meditate on it. A love for God’s law begins with a love for His Word, yet many struggle to read the Bible, as they trust they will hear what they need to from a pastor. Brothers and Sisters, it is important that we know what the Bible says so that we are not “tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine” (Ephesians 4:14).
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper. ~Psalm 1:2-3
The person who loves God’s law will be focused, steadfast, producing fruit, and living in victory. This is someone you can follow because he knows where he is going.
Bible reading is considered a spiritual discipline–something we should do whether we feel like it or not. It takes time and a bit of mental energy, but it is worth it. It may be hard to get into initially, but as you read and pray over what you read, God will begin to bring it to life for you. Passages you used to read over will have meaning. Things you thought were boring may produce excitement. Anything can be drudgery if your heart is not in it, but I encourage you to press on. It doesn’t matter how many times you have started and then quit. Today can be the day you truly develop a love for God’s law.
