Then they said to Moses, ‘You speak with us, and we will hear, but let not God speak with us, lest we die.’ … So the people stood afar off, but Moses drew near the thick darkness where God was. ~Exodus 20:19, 21
Can you relate to the children of Israel? “I don’t know what God’s doing, but that thick darkness scares me. You go through it if you want, but I’m going to stay where it’s safe.” No doubt they thought Moses was crazy as he boldly approached God’s presence, but Moses didn’t fear, for He knew God!
Everyone goes through dark times if they live long enough. These seasons are miserable and sometimes scary, but if you are God’s child, know that God is right there with you. I am proof that God can give a song even in the darkest of times, even in the deepest grief, through millions of tears. The secret is to hold tightly to His hand, draw near to Him, trust Him even when all you see is the horrible situation. As long as we live in this fallen world, we will face things we would rather not deal with. But remember that:
Someday, we’ll leave it all behind us
Someday, we’ll walk this way no more
Somewhere, it’s called the sweet forever
And someday we’ll step onto that shore
(The McKameys, “Someday,” from With Feeling, Live)
Be faithful, dear friends. This too shall pass.
