As I sit down to write, I wonder if I have anything of worth to say. It’s been over a month since my last post, and part of that is due to life being busy, dealing with stressful situations, and yet making time where I can to draw near to God because He is the One who provides the strength that literally gets me through my days sometimes. Then again, I suppose that is always true. It’s just that I’m more aware of it some days.
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus instructed, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” There are seasons where it seems that rest will never come, but I think that is partly due to the fact that we struggle to give our burdens to Jesus. We may ask that He take them, but He may be waiting on our surrender which is still forthcoming. Or maybe He is delaying as He did with Lazarus so that He may receive the glory when our answer comes (John 11:4).
Paul felt a need to tell the Galatians in chapter 6 verse 9: “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Paul understood weariness, but he encouraged the Church to keep their eyes on the eternal goal. Everything God brings into our lives is for a purpose, and we need to rest in that. (This should not be confused with the things we bring into our own lives due to bad choices which result in devastation.)
As I struggle with some of what is being thrown at me, I am reminded of my constant prayer that God will be glorified in my life. For Jesus, that prayer resulted in His crucifixion. Thankfully, God is not asking that of any of us. But He is asking for faithfulness, for servanthood, for surrender to His will. He wants to know that we truly love Him and will be His hands and feet wherever we are needed. May we all accept, as Jesus did, that we are here to be about our Father’s business (Luke 2:49, KJV).
