Seek Your Servant

My mind has been going in a lot of directions the last few days as I’ve been processing the National Quartet Convention which I watched online last week. I had thought I might share some of the things I took away from that since it would be semi-Southern Gospel-related. But as I was going through my Walk of Repentance Bible study and praying this afternoon, I thought I should focus on a verse that jumped out at me last night.

Psalm 119:176 says, “I have gone astray like a lost sheep. Seek your servant for I do not forget your commandments.”

The psalmist was actually asking God to pursue him, knowing he hadn’t been living right but letting God know he hadn’t forgotten God’s commandments. How different this mindset is from today’s world where we don’t want to see ourselves let alone have God see us. Then again, this was the same man who prayed, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” David knew how to truly walk in repentance. No wonder he was called a man after God’s own heart.

I think of the old hymn:

I’ve wandered far away from God
Now I’m coming Home
The path of sin no more I’ll trod
Lord, I’m coming Home

Satan is prowling around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8) but God is also looking over the earth to find men and women who will raise their hands and say, “Here I am. Thank You for relentlessly pursuing this lamb that had strayed. Lord, I’m coming Home. How can I serve you today?” May that be the prayer of each one of us.

Keeping Focus

This past weekend, I ran book tables at a conference. It had been over a year since I had done that, but since it was a large portion of my life for a number of years, I felt right at home. God has given me the ability to connect with people, and I love doing so. As I...

Loving God’s Law

Oh, how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day. ~Psalm 119:97 I wonder how many Christians can honestly say they love God's law, let alone meditate on it. A love for God's law begins with a love for His Word, yet many struggle to read the Bible, as they...
