Do You Know Jesus?

by | Aug 18, 2019 | Uncategorized

When asked the title question, I’m guessing everyone reading this would say, “Sure I do.” You may go on to explain how you attend church regularly, sing in the choir, read the Bible, pray, etc. But that’s not the question. Do you really know Jesus? Do you know who He is? Do you understand His heart and character traits? If someone asked you, “What would Jesus do?” would you be able to accurately answer that question?

A number of years ago, I realized how well I knew my mom. When faced with a decision, I would inevitably know what Mom would say. That is how well we should know our Lord.

Two Christian leaders have apostatized in the last few weeks and, as I have struggled to understand why, it occurs to me that they may have never known the one they preached and sang about. Maybe they liked the way it felt to be in His presence or they relished the acclaim they received due to their positions. But if they truly knew Him, I don’t think they could have walked away. This is why I am stressing this issue.

It’s not enough to go through “Christian” motions and speak “Christianese.” You must dig into God’s Word and find out who God is, who Jesus is, and what they expect of their followers. Study the things they love and the things they hate. Ask God to open up the Bible to you as never before. Instead of putting off rules and regulations, ask the Father to fill you with His Spirit and help you to find the joy in serving Him. Let’s finish well, Brothers and Sisters. Regardless of what others do, let our declaration be, “Though none go with me, still I will follow.”

Keeping Focus

This past weekend, I ran book tables at a conference. It had been over a year since I had done that, but since it was a large portion of my life for a number of years, I felt right at home. God has given me the ability to connect with people, and I love doing so. As I...

Loving God’s Law

Oh, how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day. ~Psalm 119:97 I wonder how many Christians can honestly say they love God's law, let alone meditate on it. A love for God's law begins with a love for His Word, yet many struggle to read the Bible, as they...
