Several weeks ago, I was very pleased to attend a concert at First Baptist Church in Oakwood, Georgia featuring Sounds of Jericho and The Sheltons. The concert was supposed to include another quartet and a soloist, but circumstances prevented their appearing. While I would have enjoyed the other artists as well, it was nice to have even more time for the two artists that were there.
Sounds of Jericho includes two original members of The LeFevre Quartet, Stephen Sigmon and Stacy Bragg. Their fellow church members Matt Tyler and Ken Thomas round out the line-up. I’ve seen this group several times and they have a really solid quartet sound. I will be seeing them again this weekend, so I’ll concentrate on a review here of The Sheltons and will have more to report on Sounds of Jericho a little later!
This was the first time I’d seen The Sheltons that now includes George (Junior) and his sisters Sandra and Frankie. This family group was formed back in the late 1950’s by their parents and, according to their website, they have recorded 18 albums – with another one due out in February. Many folks will remember George from his time with the Dixie Echoes.
The Sheltons had quite a variety of tempos and styles on their program. And I really loved their family harmony and blend. Each of the siblings did some sharing during the introductions to several of their songs and I could really see how personal the songs were to them. Here are more videos than I usually post but I want to you to be able to get hear them as they performed these wonderful songs.
- A Child’s Request
- Oh It Thrills Me
- I Want to See Heaven
- Walk With Me – This was one of my favorites that George performed with the Dixie Echoes and I loved this trio version even better!
- I’m Gonna Take a Vacation – I love the calypso rhythm!
- Come Spring
Love the Sheltons
Walk with me…WOW….just ….WOW..!!!!
