This morning, I listened to the Gatlin Brothers’ Come Home CD. I was surprised how many of the songs centered around the Cross, but it was exactly what I needed to focus on today. You see, I woke up pretty discouraged. Mornings have been rough this past week, and this morning was no exception which caused me to miss church. It’s been a while since I have attended church with my family, and I miss worshiping with them.
As each song played, I was reminded of several things: God loves me; He has a plan; He is not finished with me; when discouraged, I need to turn my eyes to Him. These are simple things that those who grow up in church learn as a child, but sometimes we need to be reminded of the basics.
When life gets hard, your tendency (like mine) may be to worry, stress, despair, cry. But Jesus says, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). You do not have to carry your burden alone.
If you are struggling today, take some time to read the Word. Listen to spirit-filled music. Thank God for everything He did for you on the Cross. Worship Him. Make this a day that you don’t ask for anything but, instead, spend the day in prayer and thanksgiving. You may find that your trials no longer seem so large, but your God seems enormous! After all, He is.
