The Inspirations – “Yes, I Will Be There” (1988)
With this latest release, the Inspirations scaled the instrumentation back to just piano, bass and acoustic guitar. The album had a more rustic feel, but was undeniably “Inspirations”.

The Inspirations – “Is That Footsteps That I Hear?” (1981)
1981 brought the Inspirations one of the best known and best loved songs, with the title song, “Is That Footsteps That I Hear”. Read all about it!
The Inspirations – “Singing in the Smokies…Live” (1980) / “Second Helpin’” (1981)
1980 and 1981 saw the Inspirations releasing 2 live albums, both recorded the same night during the 1980 summer session of the Singing in the Smokies. 2 very different live albums, showing the unique shades of music by the Inspirations.
The Inspirations – “Sing Me a Gospel Song” (1980)
After 6 years with the same vocal line-up, this would be the first album with Jack back at the baritone position since early 1970. While this album did not yield any radio hits, it was an excellent album overall. Read all about it…
The Inspirations – “Songs of Love” (1979)
“Songs of Love” would be the Inspirations’ second release for 1979. The warm feel of the cover starkly contrasts the cold looking cover of their last album. Read all about it…
The Inspirations – “It’s Still the Blood” (1987)
This would be Ronnie Hutchins’ only mainline release during his brief tenure with the group in the 80’s. It was a great album, with the title song becoming one of the Inspirations’ most loved tunes and one of Archie’s sugar sticks.
The Inspirations – “Tell It To A Friend” (1986)
After about 6 years with the same line-up, Jack Laws left the Inspirations, and though he is on the album, he is not on the cover. This was a unique album for the group and ranks as one of my personal favorites. Check it out…

USB Flash Drives – An Unnecessary Compromise?
Are USB albums an elegant solution, or is it a stop-gap to allow artists to still get paid for a physical product, even if that physical format has a limited life span?

Pray for the Persecuted Church
Voice of the Martyrs has called an International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church today and throughout the month of November. I don't think it was coincidental that my daily Bible reading this morning was Psalm 70. As I read the Psalms, my focus is typically on...
How about You?
In the Bible study Experiencing God, the question was asked, "What did God do to draw you to Himself, specifically?" The answer that popped into my head as I pondered this was a line from an old Happy Goodman Family song: "I came through tribulation. How about you?"...
Pursue Righteousness
Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. ~2 Timothy 2:22 When you think of lust, the first thing that probably pops into your mind is that of a man lusting after a woman, but lust can...
He Brought Me Through
He brought me through Praise God, He brought me through He's done everything my Lord said He would do Through impossibilities, He's given victory He'll do the same for you; He brought me through. (as sung by Gold City on their Pillars of Faith CD) It didn't come to...
Are You Ready to Go?
Life is moving faster than it ever has before What tomorrow brings us isn't certain any more I grew up listening to this song from Evie, but I will say if this was true back in the 1970s, it's even more true now. Scrolling through Facebook, I caught an old Gaither...
Sins of Omission
I'm sure everyone is familiar with sins of commission. These are the sins that we willfully commit. Maybe we aren't mindful at the time that we are sinning or maybe we don't care, but they are the sins that can be seen. Sins of omission, on the other hand, are harder...
Wisdom of the Aged
Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who stood before his father Solomon while he still lived, and he said, “How do you advise me to answer these people?” And they spoke to him, saying, “If you will be a servant to these people today, and serve them, and answer...
Palm Sunday Thoughts 2023
Palm Sunday. The day we remember the throngs of people who worshiped Jesus as they waved palm branches, shouting, "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!" Yet it wasn't long before these same people were shouting, "Crucify Him!" How could their adoration so...
Adding to Kindness
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love ~2 Peter 1:5-7,...
For the Forgiven
Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.” ~Luke 7:47 Several members of our church are involved in jail ministry, and because of them, I have seen firsthand the truth of...
The Kingsmen – “Mississippi Live” (1987)
The final release in the trilogy of live albums is this wonderful live album, where the Kingsmen finally were able to pull-off a recording in Jackson, Mississippi. It’s my personal favorite of the 3 live albums recorded between 1985-1987. Read all about it!
