Twenty years ago, the number one song on the Singing News Chart for September was “Jerusalem” by the Hoppers; Legacy Five won favorite male quartet at the Singing News Fan Awards that year, while the Perrys won favorite mixed group, and Greater Vision was the favorite trio. This was also the year that David Bruce Murray started MusicScribe.
In 2004, I was in my early 30s, working for my mom’s publishing company and writing articles for her magazines, but if I had heard of a blog, I don’t think I was that familiar with them. My, how times have changed.
Ten years ago, I was writing Sunday devotionals for a Southern Gospel Blog that was discontinuing, so I was thrilled when David Bruce Murray asked if I would be willing to move my column to MusicScribe. I have been blessed to be a part of this talented group of bloggers ever since. Although my posts are not specifically related to Southern Gospel Music, it’s a blessing to be able to encourage people in their walk with the Lord in an industry that I have loved for over 40 years.
If you look back over the last twenty years, I imagine you’ve experienced a lot of changes. Children grow up and move away, friends and family members pass on, some experience job changes. Change is inevitable, and Southern Gospel Music is not immune to that fact. We can all think of groups that are no longer traveling, singers who are no longer with us, and some who have changed their style through the years. In a world where it is hard to keep up with the changes, I’m grateful for consistency where I can find it, and MusicScribe has been consistent in its focus to share pertinent Southern Gospel news and information with you, the readers. One of the things I appreciated early on is that this isn’t a blog that favors certain artists over others. Rather, you will find honest reporting on newsworthy items and unbiased reviews and assessments of both old and new recordings..
Congratulations, MusicScribe on 20 years of faithfully reporting Honest Reviews, News, and Views! I look forward to seeing how the Lord continues to use this blog in the years to come!
It’s great and keep it going for another 20 years.
I remember the switch from the other blog to this one!
