After a busy week, I am thankful to have a day to be still and know that He is God. I know people who live their lives not having time for God, relationships, or anything else besides what keeps them busy. Sometimes they don’t even know what those things are; they just continually run from one activity to another. I do not typically live my life this way, but occasionally I get a glimpse into what their lives might be like.
I have often told people, “If you are too busy to spend time with God, you are too busy.” It doesn’t matter what “good” activities you are involved in; you will not be able to maintain your busy schedule without taking time on a daily basis to refuel. I understand that I am in a better position than many to be able to find time in my day to put God first, but I maintain that regardless of your situation, it is important. For those who are retired and no longer have children at home, you definitely don’t have an excuse.
I realize that it’s easier after a busy day to turn on the TV or read a novel in order to veg out, but if you have not yet taken time to seek God and read His Word, those other things will have to wait.
I want my order of priority to be God, family, friends, and then others that He puts in my life. If I begin to get off track with that, I trust that He will show me so that I can quickly get back on the right path. Obviously, I have work to do and other things that need tended to, but if I seek Him first and His righteousness, He will show me how to organize my days so that I accomplish everything that I need to.
I realize that, for some, Sunday is the only day that they can do things around the house, get their shopping done, etc. If this is you, there is no condemnation, but I still encourage you not to neglect personal time with the Lord. (Going to church isn’t enough.) If you can set aside one day a week to rest and seek the Lord, that is ideal but, if not, get time when you can. Do not let your relationship with your Heavenly Father suffer.
