Last Week’s Happenings

  • The Southern Gospel Music Association announced the 2017 Hall Of Fame Induction will be held Tuesday afternoon, September 26 at the National Quartet Convention. The ticketed event will be a fundraiser for the organization with performances by several of Southern Gospel’s top groups in addition to the inductions of Troy Burns, LaBreeska, Hemphill, Randy Shelnut, and Tony Greene.
  • Singing News announced the final round of voting for the 2017 Fan Awards is now open. Click HERE to vote.
  • BMI’s Top 25 Christian Songs of 2017 were recognized at their Christian Awards event last Tuesday in Nashville, Tennessee. Southern Gospel songwriters honored include: Lee Black, Joel Lindsey, and Sue Smith for “Battle Cry”; Karen Peck and Kenna West for “I Am Blessed”; Rodney Griffin for “Put Out The Fire” (Greater Vision); Joseph Habedank for “The Beauty Of The Blood”; and Sandy Blythe for “Worry Ends Where Faith Begins.” Click HERE to view the complete list of awards.
  • Victoria Huggins was crowned Miss North Carolina on Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina. It was her fifth year participating in the competition. Huggins will represent the state of North Carolina in the Miss America pageant in September.
  • River’s Edge of Hays, NC announced that John Blackburn has joined the group. Blackburn replaces Sherri Vestal who is leaving the trio to focus on the music ministry at her church, Cathedral Of Praise.

  • Please continue to pray for the recovery of Eli Fortner who underwent surgery for a kidney transplant last Wednesday and had a second surgery on Thursday to correct a blockage.

Trivia Nugget

  • Amber Nelon Thompson turned down a college scholarship to play basketball, because she was more focused on her career as a singer.
