Doubly Good to You

If you find a love that’s tenderIf you find someone who’s trueThank the LordHe’s been doubly good to you   ~Rich Mullins

I write a lot about thanksgiving because, for most people, that is not their normal bent. We can receive praise all day long, but it’s the person who criticized us that we will remember. I can be guilty of this too, but I’m praying to be quicker to praise God for His goodness to me and to others.

In His book Trusting God, Jerry Bridges argues that it’s a sin even to complain about the weather. Ouch. I don’t think it’s an accident that I read that as we prepare to go into winter. I don’t like the cold, but every season has a purpose. If I believe that God controls the elements, then I need to keep praising Him whether in rain, snow, sleet, or dark of night.

Almost everyone has someone who loves them. If you can’t think of anyone, you may want to evaluate why, but you can always rejoice in the fact that you have a Heavenly Father who loves you and (at the risk of sounding cliche) has a plan for your life. If you have received one blessing from His hand, He’s already been doubly good to you. I encourage you to ponder that this week and to look for the blessings that you might not have noticed before.

Psa 142:2 I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble.
Does this sound like David is sinning?
