Encouragement for Election Week

by | Nov 1, 2020 | Uncategorized

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).

I’ve heard from a couple of friends recently who are concerned about the upcoming election. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of Americans, if not the world, are somewhere between concerned to downright scared about what will happen to our country if a certain candidate wins. What I find interesting is that it’s both sides. Whereas many are going to panic if Joe Biden becomes President, others will have similar feelings if President Trump gets reelected. I confess that I have my own unsettled feelings, but this is where I once again look up and remember that I may not be able to control what happens on Tuesday, but my God will still take care of me.

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God” (Psalm 20:7).

This is a good time to evaluate where your trust really lies. Is it in politicians or in the God who still holds the world in His hands? A friend of mine believes that God has released control of the world to Satan for a time, and there are times that I wonder if that is the case, but God has promised to take care of His children. Sometimes we have to go through hard times, and whether it begins next year or way down the road, I expect that America will go through some rough seasons, but God will continue to be just a prayer away.

Although my faith is not in this election, the results are going to affect each one of us. I would encourage those who are able, to fast and pray for the next couple of days. If you are not able to go without eating, consider taking the time that you would watch TV or chat on Facebook to looking to the Lord and asking for His mercy on our country. This will be futile if there is sin in your life so if there are things that you need to repent of, do that first. Not in a “God, if you do this for me, I’ll do this for you” manner, but truly ask God to search you and know you and see if there is any wicked way in you and lead you to life everlasting (Psalm 139:23). Then, when Tuesday comes and you’ve cast your vote, rest in the fact that no matter what befalls you, Jesus doeth all things well.

God bless you, my friends. Keep looking up. No matter what happens this week, don’t despair. God still has a work for you to do.

Thank you for this balanced perspective on the upcoming election. Prayer is most needed for our country.

Our family is praying for a clear result (regardless of what that result is) and that the gospel will be preached, and spread even further, even if it must be through persecution or hardship.

    Let us pray!

I have to say that is a hard prayer to pray, but that’s really what it comes down to. God can use anyone to accomplish His purposes.
