The Tuesday afternoon showcase at the 2019 National Quartet Convention kicked off with a 30-minute session with Karen Peck & New River which included songs as well as question-and-answers with the audience. One of the funnier responses came from Kari who, when asked which group member was the biggest comedian, said, “My Mom, but she isn’t trying to be funny.”

The bulk of the afternoon session was spent inducting Ernie Phillips, Jackie Wilburn, Ruben Bean, and Gerald Wolfe into the Southern Gospel Music Association’s Hall Of Fame. Several groups performed during the showcase, including several groups closely associated with those being inducted. One of the more moving moments came as the Kingsmen sang “The Old Ship Of Zion” and Ernie Phillip’s recorded voice was added on the final verse. Other performers were The McKameys (their song featured Ruben), Wilburn & Wilburn, and Greater Vision (minus Gerald) joined by Scott Fowler and Mark Trammell who split the verses originally sung by Gerald on “Champion Of Love.”

Highlights of the evening concert included:
1. Seeing Daniel Riley of Gold City back on stage after his fall two months ago
2. Hearing Chris Allman featured on a solo performance of “Blades Of Grass”
3a. Particularly strong sets by the Mark Trammell Quartet, Perrys, and Kingdom Heirs near the end of the evening
3b. And speaking of the Perrys, Libbi Perry Stuffle wore a 25-year-old dress she had previously worn for an album cover photo in 1995 after her fans raised more than $1000 for the SGMA last week.
