Finals updates have been made!!
Note: I will be posting a single video highlight for each program again this year and will then update each post with more videos from home next week!
This was another really great program but it didn’t quite exceed the excitement of last night!! There was still a whole bunch of great gospel singing! The video highlight for this evening is the high-energy “God Fights On My Side” by the Guardians!
First up tonight were the Classic Melody Boys. They are a treasure and I love seeing Gerald Williams. Members Mike Franklin, Jonathan Sawrie, Doug Kramer, and Hall of Famer Gerald Williams made the crowd very happy with their classic songs! Here are some videos for you:
- Swing That Golden Chariot Low
- Daddy Sang Bass
- Old Man River – This was a solo from Gerald Williams!
The Primitive Quartet always impresses me with their instrumentals and they performed two of them during their set this year. While I don’t love bluegrass, I do enjoy the Primitive Quartet.
The Guardians made their second appearance at MQS since becoming a quartet last year. With three number 1 hits in the last 18 months, these guys know how to please a crowd! Besides the feature above, here’s one more from The Guardians:
Dixie Echoes were on stage next and since Randy hasn’t recovered from his laryngitis, Josh Garner joined the guys for their set again. They pulled out a few songs I hadn’t heard in a while and did several more of my favorites.
- Wait Til You See Me In My New Home – instrumental
- Sweet Desert Rose
Mark Trammell Quartet is another real crowd pleaser. I particularly enjoyed the songs from their latest CD and their much beloved rendition of The King Is Coming. Here are two songs from their newest album, God Has Provided:
Here is a playlist of all of the videos I’ve posted from Memphis Quartet Show 2019!
Diana: Thank you so very much for your note on the Classic Melody Boys with their classic line-up of members! This group is my all-time favorite SG quartet. IMHO, I think they were always under-appreciated.

Wish I could have been there! I hope they will continue performing—even occasionally–for many years to come!
