GOSPEL MUSIC HAPPENINGS

Dixie Melody Boys lead singer Josh Garner announced both he and tenor singer Jerry Skaggs are leaving the Dixie Melody Boys effective June 2, 2019.

Dixie Melody Boys owner and bass singer Ed O’Neal disputed rumors he might be selling or retiring the group. The 83-years-young O’Neal said he looks forward to getting back on the road with the DMB as soon as he is fully recovered from an April 1 automobile accident.

Prayer Request

The Pine Ridge Boys’ bus was damaged in an accident on May 18. Thankfully, no one was injured and the group was able to fulfill their weekend dates. The bus, however, did not make the trip and needs to be repaired.

The Dixie Melody Boys situation intrigues me. Unless they are prepared to not fulfill their dates after June 1, it seems that Willie will be the only one of the original group out on the road. Does that mean there are 3 other fill-in singers? And for how long? That setup doesn’t seem very much like the DMBs to me. Maybe it’s time for Ed to hang it up……. :-/
