Sounds of Jericho, Karen Peck & New River, LeFevre Quartet (Flowery Branch, GA)

by | Apr 8, 2017 | Concert Review

This and a couple more reviews I’ll be publishing in the next week or so should really be filed under the category of “Better Late Than Never!!” But there was so much great singing, that I don’t want to let them go entirely without at least an abbreviated review!

For the last concert of the 2016, I attended “The Awakening” concert at Blacksheer Place Baptist Church in Flowery Branch, Georgia that featured The LeFevre Quartet, Karen Peck & New River, and Sounds of Jericho. Our emcee for the evening was Danny Jones.

First up was The LeFevre Quartet. I didn’t realize it at the time, but this was the last concert where I would see Trent Adams in the bass position for the LeFevre Quartet. Trent is now singing much closer to his home with a group named The Wilkes. (I will be publishing another review that includes the LeFevre Quartet with Keith Plott soon.) The respiratory crud was affecting several of the group members but they carried on like the troopers they are, including Mike who had been hospitalized a couple of weeks earlier. I was a bit hampered in making videos by a precious lady sitting right in back of me singing along heartily and off-key! However, here is one of the highlights of their set:

I Want to Walk Every Day With My Lord

Karen Peck & New River was next.  I don’t get to see this group as often as I’d like, even though they are based out of Georgia. I am enjoying seeing Karen’s daughter Kari on stage with them now as well as her son Matthew who has been playing guitar and ukelele with them for quite a while. They had a great set and Karen was so good at putting up with all of the teasing that she always gets from Mike LeFevre and Danny Jones. Here’s one of the highlights from their performance – a song that was co-written by Karen with Jason Cox and Gerald Crabb:

Calling

Sounds of Jericho was the final group. Their bass and tenor singers (Stacy Bragg and Stephen Sigmon) were original LeFevre Quartet members. This is their home church and of all of the groups, their sound was actually the best in the auditorium. They had to go last on the program to give their last member time to get to the venue after his “day job!” Man, they were well worth the wait!!! Here are the songs that videoed the best (without the additional background singer sitting behind me!!!
