Do you ever wonder what you have accomplished thus far in your life? I do frequently. For some, I expect God blinds them to their achievements so that they do not become proud. For others, they may have these thoughts because they have honestly not done anything worthwhile. I hope for all of us who call ourselves Christians, the former is true, but I think it’s good to ponder these things and pray about ways to be more greatly used for Christ’s Kingdom.
God did not create mankind to simply exist and become fat, lazy, carnal creatures. He desired people to have fellowship with Him and to be productive (for example, tending the garden and naming animals). He wanted man to enjoy the life God gave him, but man was not to worship it or become obsessed with it.
In a few years, I will be 50. Fifty years sounds like a long time and yet it went very quickly. As George Younce used to say, I probably have more years behind me than I have ahead of me, and I do not want to squander the time I have left.
Each morning that you wake up, I encourage you to consciously dedicate your day to the Lord. I was reminded again recently that man makes his plans but the Lord orders his steps (Proverbs 16:9). I, for one, am grateful for that. I want to be purposeful in life with a plan of how to fulfill that purpose, but I don’t want to be so obsessed with things going my way that I miss what God desires for me.
As you go through this week, listen for that still, small voice that may desire to redirect you. If you experience that, I’d love to hear about it. Have a great, God-centered week!
