Concert Review: PromisedLand Quartet (Newport, TN)

by | Nov 5, 2018 | Concert Review

On their way home from National Quartet Convention, PromisedLand Quartet made a stop in Newport, Tennessee for a repeat performance at the beautiful Southside Baptist Church. (I believe they said it was their 5th visit to the church.) I was so pleased to be able to see this group in a full performance closer than their home state, since Virginia is just a tad outside my normal range!

PromisedLand is made up of tenor Joey Wilson, lead Gene Hamman, baritone Aaron Swain, and bass K.C. Armstrong. Joey and Gene are both original members of the group. PromisedLand has appeared on the main stage as a Power Hour participant and as a daily winner of the artist showcase. K.C. has also appeared multiple times as part of the U.S. Army Quartet singing the national anthem at the beginning of NQC.

These gentlemen have a rich, full quartet sound and presented a great variety of songs. I found it interesting that they stood in a different order than we usually expect on stage with the bass, then tenor, then baritone, then lead from the left to right. Their blend was pretty smooth, so it definitely works! Each of the group members spoke to either introduce a song and/or to give a few words of testimony, which I thought made them more personable to the audience.

Here are a few videos from this service. I’m including more than usual because I just couldn’t leave any of these out.

It has been announced that K.C. will be leaving the group at the beginning of the year due to his retirement from the Army and his family’s move to Tennessee. I sure do hope that he will be able to join another Southern Gospel group so that we can continue to enjoy his smooth, beautiful voice.
