Concert Review: Mercy’s Well (Wrens, GA)

by | Oct 18, 2018 | Concert Review

There are several southern gospel groups out there that I like very much but that I don’t get to see very often because they just don’t come to my area. Mercy’s Well is one of those groups! Based in Greensboro, North Carolina, I can probably count on one hand the number of times they have come to Georgia in the past 4 or 5 years. So, when they did come within my driving range, I gassed up the car and headed out to the pretty town of Wrens, GA.

The members of Mercy’s Well are tenor Brad Strider, lead Jake Wood, and baritone Greg Gainer. I enjoy the variety in their music but I’m particularly fond of some of their more country-sounding selections like Who Do You Think and Thinking About Home and the more contemporary songs like Shine On Us and Jesus Saves.

There was an extra, uninvited band member at this concert. I think most of us would rather that Mr. Tambourine Man had stayed at the back of the church instead of coming down to the very front row during the concert. While I understand his enthusiasm over the message of the music, may I just say that his playing didn’t enhance the second half of the program. I think that Mercy’s Well did an excellent job of presenting their music despite the significant distraction.

Videos: These are my favorites from the service that didn’t have the extra tambourine.

  • Shine On Us[1] – This was one of my very favorites because of the beautiful harmonies and blend.
  • Who Do You Think[2] – This is such a gentle, lovely song about the Christmas miracle.
  • Who Do You Know[3] – This is one of the songs that I think displays Mercy’s Well’s easily recognizable style. I love this trio’s sound!
  • How Great Thou Art[4] – I really like the way each of the singers is featured on a verse of this classic song.
