PureFlix president David A. R. White has announced plans for a reboot the beloved 1960’s gospel music classic, Sing A Song For Heaven’s Sake. The new film will focus on the story of a 16 year old girl who would prefer to play in the local mega-church’s modern praise & worship band rather than sing the beloved hymns and gospel classics of her conservative Baptist church upbringing. Her parents, played by White and Andrea Logan, take her on a road trip to the famed National Quartet Convention in an effort to help her see the value in traditional gospel music and hymns.

The original film, released in 1966, featured the top gospel music acts of the era, and was met with much praise and celebration from gospel music fans. It’s message is even more relevant today than it was over 50 years ago, says White.

“There is such a powerful struggle in today’s church music…and it’s affecting our youth now more than ever. We felt that it was time to resurrect (no pun intended) this timeless film for a modern era, but without losing the core identity of the original production, which is that southern gospel music really is Heaven’s music; not this modern contemporary nonsense.”

Like the original the new film will feature live performances from some of the top southern gospel artists of today. White has struck a deal with Clarke Beasley with the NQC board to utilize footage recorded direct from the National Quartet Convention main stage in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

White has also teamed with Crossroads Entertainment to release the exclusive musical soundtrack for the film, as well as performance tracks for each song so that, as White puts it, “moviegoers can take these songs and the message of this film into their own churches.” A limited-edition redback hymnal (licensed exclusively from Gerald Wolfe) will also be made available.

Sing A Song For Heaven’s Sake is directed and produced by David A. R. White and begins production in September in Pigeon Forge.
