Last Week’s Happenings

  • The 2017 Singing News Songwriters Search is now accepting submissions. Once the finalists are determined, 11th Hour, Gordon Mote, and the Hyssongs will each select a song to record, and the three contest winners will be featured in an upcoming issue of Singing News. Click HERE for all the details on how to enter.
  • Ed O’ Neal announced the addition of tenor singer Jerry Skaggs to his legendary Dixie Melody Boys. Skaggs replaces Doug Pittman who joined the Down East Boys in April.
  • Chapel Valley announced that singer/songwriter Victoria Bowlin has recently signed an exclusive recording contract. Her first release with the label, You See Beauty, is already available.
  • Joseph Habedank and The Erwins announced they will appear at three events together in June, and again for an event in October billed as The Resurrection Of Faith Tour.
  • The Top Ten nominees in the Diamond Awards were announced, and the next round of voting is open. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, during the Creekside Gospel Music Convention in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Click HERE to vote.
  • M.A.C. Records announced that the group, Purpose, from Russellville AL has been added to their Magnolia Records label.
  • Memphis Quartet Show attendees and other audiences who saw Legacy Five last week learned that pianist Josh Townsend has joined the group. Townsend, who played keyboard previously for the LeFevre Quartet and Old Paths, replaced Trey Ivey who announced his impending resignation in April.

Prayer Request

  • Please keep Eli Fortner in your prayers this week as he is having surgery on Wednesday for another kidney transplant. Also pray for the donor, C J Shelty.

Did You Know?

  • Ray Dean Reese first joined the Kingsmen in 1967. He left in 1968, then returned in 1971. During the three years away from the Kingsmen, Reese sang with the Pine Ridge Boys and a group called Journeymen & Kathleen. He also drove a truck delivering JFG brand coffee. Reese is currently completing his 46th consecutive year and 47th cummulative year as the Kingsmen Quartet’s bass singer (including three years in the early 2000s when the group was billed as the Carolina Boys).

I’m glad to see Ernie is re-issuing some Cathedrals albums finally!! Can’t wait to get a hold of Radio Days again (my CD copy was scratched beyond playability before I could digitize it).
