Best Of The 2010s: Sony Elise’s Picks for Song, Album, & Concept Video

by | Feb 22, 2020 | Superlatives

In the categories of Song, Album, and Concept Video, we had 20 or more nominations each! Because there are so many, we have opted not to narrow these down to a single pick. Instead, each MusicScribe writer will announce their picks in these categories.

Here are my picks (Sony Elise).

SONG
“Finish Well” – Karen Peck & New River/James Forman and Mark Mathes
Choosing my favorite song of the last decade was difficult. There are quite a few I like(d), and it’s hard to remember every song that was released, but I must say that this song still speaks to me every time I hear it. Maybe even more so now than when it first came out. My daily prayer is to be faithful. Karen’s admonition to “finish well” and “finish strong” is a great reminder to keep fighting the fight and keeping the faith no matter what is going on around me.

Honorable Mentions
“Life Is Good” – The Hoppers
“From Dust to Glory” – The McKameys

ALBUM
Life Is Good – Hoppers
It’s not often that a CD hits me the first time I hear it, but this one did which instantly made it my favorite CD of 2016, and probably my favorite of the decade. I liked it so much that I quickly bought one for a friend who seemed to like it as much as I do. The title song itself is worth the cost of the CD, but each song has good lyrics, and it has the perfect mixture of up tempo and slower songs. Well done, Hoppers!

Honorable Mentions
Battle Cry – Kingsmen
Hymns: The A Capella Sessions – Nelons

CONCEPT VIDEO
“I Wish We’d All Been Ready” – The Hoppers
I am not a Larry Norman fan, but he wrote a good song with “I Wish We’d All Been Ready.” The Hoppers did a great job on the vocal arrangement, but I feel like they captured it in their video as well. What would it be like to wake up and find that you were left behind? I pray that everyone reading this is ready to meet the Lord. If you haven’t seen this video, I encourage you to do so.

Honorable Mentions
“Hope for All Nations” – Karen Peck & New River
“The People in the Line” – The Talleys

We have nine more categories to announce. The winners will be revealed next week!
