Concert Event Of The 2010s

National Quartet Convention – The “Granddaddy of them all” is still the top event Southern Gospel has to offer in the collective opinion of our MusicScribe staff writers.

When the decade began, the annual event was held at the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky which included the 17,000-seat Freedom Hall arena. In 2014, NQC downsized with a move to the LeConte Center in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The event still draws as many as 12,000 fans per night plus a few hundred more artists and support staff.

Other concert events receiving votes in order are:
2 Memphis Quartet Show
3 Gerald Wolfe Hymn Sing
4 Gaither Homecoming Tour
5 Singing At Sea
6 Grand Ole Gospel Reunion
7 Gaither Vocal Band Reunion Live
8 Jubilee
9 Singing In The Sun
10(tie) Brotherhood Tour/10(tie) Singing in the Smokies
12 NQC in multiple cities/Spring Break

Impact Of The 2010s

Gaither Gospel Hour – The Impact category includes groups and organizations that have actively taken Southern Gospel to new audiences and/or engaged in mission work. In the case of our winner, it may be more accurate to say they’ve reminded fans of many songs and artists from the past while also introducing younger artists.

The Gaither Gospel Hour television program marked it’s 22nd season at the end of 2019 and shows no signs of letting up any time soon.

Other groups, individuals, and organizations receiving votes in order are:
2 Ernie Haase & Signature Sound
3 Kingdom Heirs/Dollywood presence
4 Ball Brothers
5 Gaither Vocal Band
6 Oak Ridge Boys
7 Jason Crabb
8 Booth Brothers
9 Triumphant – Dove Awards/People Magazine article
10(tie) Russ Taff – I Still Believe (documentary film)/10(tie) Collingsworth Family
12 Isaacs
13 Idaho’s Liberty Quartet
14 Chad McCloskey – Smilin’ album
15 Karen Peck & New River

Tell It Like It Is (Most Outspoken Artist) Of The 2010s

Gerald Wolfe – Some artists simply sing. Others communicate on an array of topics and in a variety of ways. This category is about more than simply stating what’s on your mind. Over the past decade, Gerald has been the spokesman for two groups (Greater Vision and Second Half Quartet); he has participated in several of Southern Gospel’s top tour events including the Jubilee Tour and Cathedrals Reunion Tour as well as the tour that bears his name, Gerald Wolfe’s Hymn Sing; he’s on the Board Of Directors at the National Quartet Convention; he has hosted radio shows and been active on social media; and, he’s coached younger singers.

Every member of MusicScribe’s staff had Gerald in their top three when voting in the “Tell It Like It Is” category, and of course, he won it by a landslide.

Others receiving votes in order are:
2 Michael Booth
3 Mark Lowry
4 Bob Sellers
5 John Rulapaugh
6 Scott Fowler
7 Mark Trammell
8(tie) Pat Barker/8(tie) Kelly Nelon/8(tie) Lauren Talley
11 McCray Dove
12 Woody Wright
