NQC 2019 – Saturday

While I was not able to attend the closing concert, I did attend the two showcases earlier in the day and they were both fabulous!

Gerald Wolfe brought his popular Hymn Sing to NQC, and he sure had lots of artists that were conveniently available to take the stage with him – Greater Vision (naturally), Legacy Five, Tribute, Whisnants, Mark Trammel Quartet, and Mylon Hayes Family, as well as pianist Stan Whitmire, organist Sandy Payton, and drummer Ben Wolfe. There were several Fanny Crosby hymns but many others were also included. On many of the hymns, a verse was sung by either a soloist or a group. I particularly enjoyed the ladies trios Gerald put together on two of the hymns – Susan Whisnant, Kennedy Hayes, and Wendy Hayes on “Victory in Jesus” and Susan Whisnant, Melissa Brady, and Maria Kramer Wolfe on “Pass Me Not, Oh Gentle Savior.”

If you haven’t been to one of the concerts on the Hymn Sing tour, you really need to try hard to do it. It’s a great feeling singing along with hundreds or thousands of your friends that love these hymns. Here’s a link to help you find a list of concerts for the rest of the year.

The Booth Brothers 20th Anniversary Reunion was amazing! A wonderful video was produced by Michael’s son that ran during various parts of the showcase providing some history of the family and showing videos from some live performances while the artists were actually performing the same song on the stage. The video portions were done so well and added so much to the program. Joseph Smith from the original Booth Brothers was on hand and looked and sounded wonderful. Joseph, Jim Brady and Paul Lancaster helped perform so many of the Booth Brothers’ greatest hits along with long-time friend, pianist, and producer Nick Bruno.

There’s no way I could pick any highlights from this program – every bit of it was so special! I didn’t hear this during the program, but I’m told by a friend that a DVD is going to be released from this program about February 1st next year.
