GOSPEL MUSIC HAPPENINGS

Nathan Potts has joined the Dixie Melody Boys to sing lead, replacing Josh Garner who left the group in June.

Speaking of the Dixie Melody Boys, former Anchormen/Port City bass singer Will Lane also joined the group last month. Going forward, the group’s longtime owner Ed O’Neal will continue to appear at select dates as his health and ability to travel permits, but Lane is their new full-time bass singer.

The Southern Gospel Music Association announced the founding of the SGMA Research Library. The facility will be housed in an early 20th century Victorian home adjacent to the campus of Daywind Music Group/NewDay Christian Distribution in Hendersonville, Tennessee thanks to support provided by Dottie Leonard Miller, CEO of Daywind/NewDay.

Rory Feek has been hired as the new Chief Creative Officer of RFD-TV. He will also be launching This Life I Live, a weekly show inspired by his popular blog.

Crossroads Publishing announced Darren Lore has joined Asheville Music Publishing and Chris White Music as a songwriter.

Eric Melton of Choice Media Group announced his company will be representing The Port City Quartet of Wilmington North Carolina in a multimedia agreement.

REMEMBERING

Former Toney Brothers bass singer Gary G. Toney passed away Friday, September 6. Mr. Toney sang bass for The Toney Brothers from 1968 to 1978 (and should not to be confused with Gary G. Toney who sang lead and baritone). A memorial service for Mr. Toney was held on Tuesday, September 10 in Taylor, Michigan.

I have been seeing a few videos pop up here and there featuring the new Dixie Melody Boys lineup. They sound great. I wondered if Nathan and Will were just filling in, or had been hired. Now I know. :-)

The Cana’s Voice project is good stuff. Never thought I’d hear Jody McBrayer sing “I Stand Redeemed,” but here we are.

OK. That’s probably the one we have listed as TBA at the bottom of the list. Their record label told us about several groups with albums “in the works” for 2019 (this was 2-3 months ago), but their album may have been bumped back to later.
