NQC 2018: Monday

NQC 2018: Monday

In Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, we are under threat of rain/thunderstorms during the National Quartet Convention. Monday was relatively tame with only light showers. I spent some time with friends at Dollywood during the day before heading over to the main evening concert. It was my first time visiting the Southern Gospel Music Association’s Hall Of Fame at Dollywood. The Hall Of Fame is not a huge building, but I was very pleased by the overall quality of the exhibits. Our industry should continue to support this organization.

At the evening concert, I caught sets by the Inspirations, Josh Singletary (piano solo), Jim Brady Trio, Mark Trammell Quartet, Perrys, Triumphant, Karen Peck & New River, Primitives, Guardians (with a guest appearance by Karen Peck), Kingdom Heirs, and Gold City.

The most memorable moments were during the Perrys set which featured the majority of their former members along with the current lineup. Their stand was dedicated to the memory of bass singer Tracy Stuffle who will be inducted posthumously into the SGMA Hall Of Fame on Tuesday afternoon.

I heard a lot of great music on Monday. Singletary’s piano solo was quite impressive, as were the sets by the Kingdom Heirs and Triumphant.

Of course, another big part of NQC is walking up and down the long meandering hallway checking out the various booths. I exchanged greetings with Chris Roberts & Scott Whitener of Carolina Quartet, Dianne Wilkinson, Pat Barker, Lauren Talley, Alan Kendall, Randy Byrd, Nick Trammell, Micah Schweinsberg, Greg Bentley, Chris White, Travis Bridgeman, Dean Adkins, R J Henderson, Dee Ann Bailey, Chris Jenkins, and a few more folks along the way.

If you’re on Facebook, click HERE to check out my photo uploads throughout the week. While you’re there, tune in to the NQC page each evening around 5:00 PM to watch Josh Singletary live from the convention.
