Concert Review: A Family Evening (Calhoun, Georgia)

by | Jul 26, 2018 | Concert Review

A few months ago I attended a concert in Calhoun, Georgia that featured three family groups – The Morrison Sisters, Jordan Family Band, and Mylon Hayes Family. It was an absolutely delightful evening.  It’s taken quite a while for me to get this review done but I don’t want to let it go without sharing my thoughts on these groups because it was wonderful seeing so many young people on the stage.

First up were the Morrison Sisters from Calhoun.  The group does really have three sisters, but it also has the dad, Wesley, who does a great job as their emcee. The girls, Addie (12), Kaity (14), and Megan (17) are simply charming and it’s obvious they have been singing together for quite a while already. They have such sweet voices and a pretty blend that was so very enjoyable. They also provide their own accompaniment with Wesley on the guitar, Kaity on mandolin, and Megan on bass guitar. It was so hard to choose just a few videos to feature, but here they are:

The Jordan Family Band is also from Calhoun and they were the hosts for the concert.  Mom and dad, Randa and Josh, are joined by sons Alex and Hutch. Sometimes the youngest son, Grant, appears with them on stage, but he didn’t on this particular evening. Also listed as a member (behind the scenes) is Keenan Atkinson, the son of Ricky Atkinson. The JFB has been getting a lot of publicity in the last few months with the release of their newest album, “Reach,” and a concept video of a patriotic song that Rebecca Peck wrote, “Old Glory Waves ,” with guests Voices of Lee.   Here are a few videos for you:

The Mylon Hayes Family concluded this night of family harmony. Parents Mylon and Wendy Hayes and their sons Bailey and Conner and daughter Kennedy performed several of my favorites and a few I hadn’t heard in concert before. They seemed to feature the kids more than usual as their parents were suffering a bit with seasonal allergies (as I was, too, if you happen to hear the coughing on the videos!). Songwriter Rebecca Peck was at the concert and she was brought on stage to sing and tell the story behind the song, “Jesus Can Change Your Life.”  Here are some videos for you:

I’m hoping to attend more concerts like this.   From the response that was received from the audience that evening, I’m pretty sure there will be more scheduled!
