Concert Review: Greater Vision (Calhoun, GA)

by | May 3, 2018 | Concert Review

A few weeks ago, Greater Vision appeared at the Heritage Baptist Church in Calhoun, Georgia. I’m always glad when they come to north Georgia since they typically don’t have many concerts in our area. Their members are now Gerald Wolfe (keyboard/emcee/very limited vocals), Chris Allman (tenor), Rodney Griffin (lead), and Jon Epley (baritone). Jon has been with the group just over a year now and the overall sound of this otherwise ultra-stable lineup has remained the same. Gerald is always outstanding as the emcee and he usually only sings one song during their concerts.

With over 28 years of history, this group has so many great new and very popular old songs to add to their programs. For this concert they sang Still, God Doesn’t Care, Rolled Back Stone, I Know a Man Who Can, My Name Is Lazarus, I Could Never Praise Him Enough, He’d Still Been God, Faces, God Wants To Hear You Sing and quite a few more. Gerald also played Great Is Thy Faithfulness as the piano offertory. My video highlight picks from this concert are all songs from older albums:

  • For All He’s Done[1] – This title song from a 2013 album was written by Chris Allman and won the Singing News Fan Awards Song of the Year in 2015.
  • Preacher, Tell It Like It Is[2] – This Rodney Griffin song was from the same “For All He’s Done” album and won the Singing News Fan Awards Song of the Year in 2014.
  • He Is To Me[3] – One of the first southern gospel albums I bought was the Greater Vision “Quartets” album from 2003, which had included this song with bass Glenn Dustin from Legacy Five. It’s a great little song and I’m really glad they’ve included it in their current program.
  • I Know He Heard My Prayer [4]– This is one of Gerald’s favorite hymns and he sang from the second verse to the end of the song. It got a standing ovation!

I was delighted to pick up a DVD entitled “I Made That Up” with about 20 comedy segments from the past 23 years or so with Gerald and Rodney. It is hilarious and brought back so many great memories.
