The Ferguson Family is based in Mount Dora, Florida. Prior to recording Living For The Call, they were billed as Great Day. Group members include Bill & Brenda Ferguson, their daughter Lisa Ann, and their son Steven.

The packaging for Living For The Call features quality photography and graphic design. It’s too bad the designer is un-credited, because packaging like this makes a good first impression.

Living For The Call sounds more like a solo recording than a group project. The majority of these songs feature the female vocalists on melody (primarily Lisa Ann, if I can trust my ears). The only time one of the male singers steps out front is for “I Think I’ll Just Praise Him.” It’s too bad there isn’t more vocal variety offered.

The CD opens with “I Feel So Good About It,” which has a rather repetitive lyric and an encore that adds nothing fresh to the arrangement. Thankfully, I was able to throw that first impression away. The other eleven songs are good stuff. I especially enjoyed the covers of “More Than You’ll Ever Know” (Imperials) and “What A Beautiful Day” (Ruppes, not Happy Goodmans). Of the newer songs, “Looking Through The Eyes Of Love” and “Tremble” in particular sound like real winners to me.

Jeff Stice handled production duties in addition to playing keyboard parts. Matt Duffy (drums/percussion), Rob Novell (bass guitar), and Roger Fortner (guitars) round out the list of studio musicians, plus Steve W. Mauldin added orchestrations.

If your taste runs to mixed groups with a dynamic female lead (11th Hour, Hoppers, Talleys, etc.), you should enjoy The Ferguson Family. My rating for Living For The Call is 4 Stars.
