Concert Review: Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, The Diplomats, Pat Barker (Ringgold and Carrollton, GA)

by | Nov 17, 2017 | Concert Review

This will be a combination review since I was able to see Signature Sound twice within a week and I’ll cover both concerts.

Ringgold, GA: Ernie Haase & Signature Sound

This concert was promoted by Southern Sacred Sounds (a production of WDEF TV station from Chattanooga). This concert was held in a lovely performing arts theater at Ringgold High School. I wish all concerts could have such a nice venue! For the VIP ticket holders, a “Meet and Greet” was held prior to the concert and a group picture was provided for autographs and a photographer was on-site to take photos with the fans as well – hence, the picture below! It sure beats the selfies that some of us take at the product table! I thought that was an extremely nice touch and would love to see other promoters do this occasionally. (hint, hint!)

Of course, Ernie sings tenor joined by the other group members Devin McGlamery (lead), Dustin Doyle (baritone), Paul Harkey (bass), Tyler Vestal (piano), and David Griffiths (bass guitar and double bass). The concert itself was almost 2-1/2 hours long with no other artists on the program, so we heard lots of great Signature Sound music including three songs from the Clear Skies project that doesn’t release until January 26th. They used some nice multi-media video, particularly on Give Me Jesus (from a concept video) and A Soldier Fighting To Go Home.

Here are some video highlights:

*Clear Skies

A Soldier Fighting to Go Home

Just A Little While/Meeting In the Air – Tyler Vestal

Carrollton, GA: Pat Barker/The Diplomats/Ernie Haase & Signature Sound

I took my elderly mother with me to this concert after having her listen to some EH&SS songs while we were traveling to another concert. I told her that she would like them – and she loved them!! In fact, she loved the entire concert and is still talking about how talented all of the singers and musicians were!

Pat Barker was the emcee for the night and sang a song at the beginning of each half of the program. Of course, I would have liked for him to have sung many more!  I already have videos on my YouTube channel of the songs that Pat sang, so I won’t re-post them here. (Here’s my channel if you’d like to see them again.)

The Diplomats took the stage next. Rita Pearson isn’t singing with them very much now so we mostly heard the male quartet version of Harold Reed, Corey and Jimmy Pearson, and Alex Utech with band members Daniel Maddox on drums and Jordan Hamby on guitar and banjo. Corey also played the piano most of the evening. Here are some video highlights:

Let Your Light Shine

There’s a Light Shining For Me

The EH&SS program in Carrollton was not the same as Ringgold, and I really appreciated that! Some groups have a song list that stays almost the same for a year or two, which makes it not as interesting to see them multiple times. Some of the same songs were sung in Carrollton but they were in a different order and five songs were sung that weren’t sung in Ringgold, including another song from the Clear Skies album.  Here are some highlights:

Then Came the Morning

*Heaven Is

If you have a chance to see either of these groups or Pat Barker, I really hope you’ll go! You will not be disappointed.
