NQC 2017: Aaron Wilburn Showcase (Thursday)

HIGHLIGHT
Aaron Wilburn’s “Oh Blessed Tail Lights” brought down the house. There were many grandparents present who seemed to have no problem relating to the sentiments in this touching song from the same man who gave us “Four Days Late.”

I don’t have a video of the Thursday performance, but here is an earlier version:

HISTORY
Novelty songs are somewhat rare, but often long remembered. One that sticks out in my mind from one of the NQC events I attended in the early 2000s is Jackie Wilburn singing “I Just Love Old People.”

Another, of course, is the “Go Out To The Program” routine. I never had the pleasure of seeing the Oak Ridge Boys perform it, but I did see the Steeles do it on September 11, 2001…yes, that September 11. It helped relieve a lot of tension that was in the room that day, and I’ll be forever grateful for the Steeles for helping us laugh on a day we all wanted to cry.
