On Chris Freeman’s latest CD, The Hinson Side of Me, she included an old Hinson song titled, “How Wrong You Are.” This was a song I had not heard before, but the words have been playing over and over in my mind.
Many believe that they are going to Heaven because they live a good life. Or, even if they are living in sin, they don’t believe that God will condemn them because their heart doesn’t. And yet God’s Word is full of God punishing those who do not keep His commandments.
I believe the most sobering verses in the Bible are Matthew 7:22-23: “On that day, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'”
The key to overcoming the world, the flesh, and the devil is the Holy Bible. The heart is deceitful and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). We can easily compare ourselves to others and think, “I’m not that bad.” But, when we look into the mirror of God’s Word, we see how much we fall short of God’s holiness. That is what produces the repentance that can bring about change.
Don’t assume you are right with God because everything seems to be going well. God sends rain on the just and unjust alike (Matthew 5:45). Instead, go to Him and allow Him to show you your heart. Ask Him to search you and try you and see if there be any wicked way in you and lead you to life everlasting. Then you can rejoice, knowing that it is well with your soul. Do it today. Don’t wait until judgment day to find out how wrong you are.
That song has always since way back when.
You are so right because sin is deceitful.
What a powerful soul searching WORD
