Concert Review: Jeff Stice (Tunnel Hill, GA)

by | Jun 9, 2017 | Concert Review

There are three things that you can expect at a Jeff Stice solo piano concert: 1) You will have fun; 2) you will hear some great piano playing; and 3) you will be encouraged. All three happened during Jeff’s 12th appearance at the Tunnel Hill United Methodist Church.

Jeff  just released a brand new album, I’m Gonna Keep On – The Songs of Andrae Crouch and he treated us to several of the songs from it. These were all done as closely to the Andrae Crouch style as possible. One of my favorites was Through It All that had a little of My Tribute at the end. The album has ten great songs on it and if you like Andrae Crouch and/or piano music at all, you’ll love it!

One of the fun portions of the program was when Jeff told us about an upcoming performance in Japan. Here’s how he’s preparing for the trip! Another funny thing that happened was that there was a lady visiting from Austria who had seen Jeff before and had made a request. I was thrilled when he said that because I hoped she had requested that he play Edelweiss from The Sound of Music, which I dearly love. But no, she had requested Jeff’s impersonation of Ray Charles!

There was also a singer in the audience from the Atlanta area that Jeff had met at a Nelons event recently and he sang a couple of songs for us. Here’s Muzeel Fairly on I Can’t Even Walk.

Jeff played a variety of other songs and hymns and also honored the veterans in the audience with his patriotic medley. He played the Hallelujah Chorus to close the program.

Jeff is a great, great artist! I watched him fill-in for the music director for Louise Mandrell back in the theater days. He was superb! I miss him with Triumphant… Always a great and blessed evening with him on the program.

Jeff Stice is a first class person, and a wonderful pianist. His personality makes it complete.
