Last Week’s Happenings
- Martin Cook, who recently retired from traveling with the Inspirations, issued a statement last week thanking his fans for their support through the years. He also reported that his doctors have now given him a good bill of health. (Cook was hospitalized after suffering a fall in March.)
- Stow Town Records reported that Going Home by The Little Roy and Lizzy Show debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard Bluegrass Albums Chart shortly after its release on May 6.
- Singing News magazine announced the Top 5 finalists in each of their Fan Awards categories. Subscribers will select the winners in the third round of voting coming soon, and winners will be announced during the 2017 National Quartet Convention this fall. - Michigan’s 4 One Quartet announced the addition of bass singer Eddie Couch. Couch replaces original bass Will Funk.
Remembering
- Rosa Nell Speer of the Speer Family passed away on Tuesday, May 16. A memorial service was held on Saturday in Decherd, Tennessee.

I’ve always considered most press releases to be way too long. I like to condense them down to just the necessary facts, so that’s how the idea for a weekly News Nuggets article was born. Attaching the list of upcoming releases was the next logical step, as those are relatively easy to update each week.
Any thoughts on the Fan Awards? I have some but I will keep them to myself…… :-)
