How deep the Father’s love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
On this day when we celebrate the Resurrection, I am still praying, “Lord, remind me of the Cross. Remind me how deep Your love is for me and the price that You paid so that I could have eternal life with You.”
The Resurrection is the joyous part but even more amazing to me is the suffering that Jesus was willing to surrender Himself to so that He could rise. First Corinthians 7:23 tells us, “You are bought with a price,” and, oh, what a price that was.
Jesus didn’t suffer so that we could pursue our own pleasures; we were created to be His servants and, as such, everything we do should be to honor our Savior.
It was my sin that held him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
How could anyone die for a world that would mock Him, spit on Him, ignore Him, and be totally apathetic about His sacrifice? And yet that was exactly what Jesus did. That thought breaks my heart and, yet, if I’m honest, I know that I lose sight of everything He went through as well. My prayer today is that I will not forget, that I will be reminded of the Cross every time I become selfish, self-focused, unhappy, depressed, etc. I have nothing to complain about. My focus should be on Christ and what He desires me to do with the strength that He gives me each day.
Oh, the deep, deep love of Jesus!
