Heaven’s Mountain Band is a Bluegrass Gospel group that formed in 1986. Members include Roger & Deborah Johnson, their son Rodney, Murlin “Brother” Johnson, Anita “Shorty” Davis and Christy Glascow. Roger wrote nine of the ten songs that appear on When The Blood Fell. The one exception, “Calm The Storm,” was written by Larry Stallings.

When The Blood Fell features a stereotypical bluegrass style. If you like the first song, chances are strong you’ll like the rest of them. Most arrangements kick off with a simple guitar intro. “Book Of Grace” has a fiddle featured on the intro rather than the expected guitar lick. Chords are the expected three with only a few exceptions (“When Children Cry”).

The solos have a homey, down-to-earth quality. Harmonies are solid, and so is the songwriting.
