Shane Dunlap – “Love So Amazing” CD Release Concert

Shane Dunlap – “Love So Amazing” CD Release Concert

A few months ago, Shane Dunlap launched a solo career with a Release Concert of his brand new CD, “Love So Amazing” at his home church, Lee Park Church in Monroe, North Carolina.  Shane has been serving as the Pastor of Worship Arts at the church for about a year and his plans for solo concerts are in addition to his regular duties at his church.    I was delighted to be able to attend the concert to hear all of the songs on the CD.   It had been almost five years since I last saw Shane when he brought N’Harmony out of retirement for a little while.  I must say that his voice is even stronger than it was back then.

All of the songs from “Love So Amazing”  were performed with a 6-member band and two amazing background vocalists from  his church, with the church’s choir joining on the title song.   Shane chose music from some writers that you will most likely be familiar with and some that you may not be.   The CD has a great variety of songs and I think that most Southern Gospel fans will just love it.   It was produced and arranged by Ricky Free and even includes a duet with Sonya Isaacs Yeary.

The CD and the live concert were totally different experiences, naturally!   The atmosphere in the church that night was so energized and I could feel the immense support for Shame from his entire church family.  I think the church can probably hold 700 or 800 folks and it was pretty full.   Here are the songs (with the writers noted in parentheses) in the order they were performed at the release concert:

  • Glory Hallelujah (Brian Duncan, Ricky Free, Barry Weeks) – While this wasn’t the first track on the CD, it was a natural for a concert or worship service opener!
  • I’m Free (Justin Rivers) – I loved the electric guitarist on this happy, peppy number!
  • Just Believe (Kenna Turner West, Lee Black) – Shane thinks this has a “Beetles” feel!   It did have some different sounds from the electric guitar!!   Great little song with several examples of miracles from the Bible and about stepping out in faith.
  • Grace Keeps Reaching (Ricky Braddy, Seth Jones, Tony Wood) – This one was one of the slower songs.  Again, such a great message:
No matter what you’ve done before
No one will ever love you more
You’ve run away, you’ve closed the door
    But grace keeps reaching.
  • He’s Making Me (Mary Funderburk, Scott Godsey)- This song was one of my faves and it had the congregation standing again!   Its message is about how God can change our lives when we let him and that we can do things we never thought we would be able to do.
  • Heaven In Your Heart (Joseph Habedank, Marcia B. Henry, Matt Price) – This is the song that was recorded with Sonya Isaacs Yeary.  Co-writer Matt Price was at the concert and Shane introduced him to the crowd.
  • The Most Unlikely People (John Lemmons, Joel Linsdey, Tony Wood) – This is another one of my favorites from the album.
  • Love So Amazing (Jeff Ferguson, Kim Stone, Regi Stone)  – This title song was sung with his church choir with minister of Music Sam Phipps directing.
  • Shaken (Chad Bohl, Chuck Butler, Tony Wood) – This was another slower song and was more in the style of a praise and worship song.  Of course, it also had a wonderful message.
  • He Loved Me Anyway (Joseph Habedank, Matt Holt) – With Joseph and Matt, you know it’s a great song!!
  • Ten Thousand Angels (Ray Overholt) – This has got to be Shane’s signature song!!  It’s not on the new album but I’m so glad he sang it during the concert!
  • He’s Making Me (reprise) brought the concert to an end.

I highly recommend “Love So Amazing.” You can order the CD from Shane’s website  or from itunes.    You can even find the lyrics for all of the songs here.

Before he released the CD, Shane released this video from the recording studio.
