RATING: 4 Stars (on a scale of 1-5 Stars)

Some singers write songs, but would be better off singing songs written by other people. Some songwriters sing, but would be better off letting other people sing their songs. Tammy Jones Robinette is a true singer/songwriter combination who is both a strong singer and a strong writer. Not only are her songs well-written, her songs are well-matched to her confident country alto vocals. Robinette wrote eleven of the twelve songs on My Amazing Life, Grady Cole’s “Heaven (I’m So Glad It’s Real)” being the one exception.

The challenge with any solo recording is to generate variety. My Amazing Life starts to run together after a while in terms of instrumentation and arrangements. Only two songs employed a key change, and this CD fails to use the background vocalists to create special moments.

Those complaints aside, My Amazing Life is still strong enough to earn a 4-Star rating. The overall strengths of this CD are compelling song choices, good production quality, excellent vocal control/tone and clear Gospel lyrics. Standout tracks include “My Amazing Life,” “I Found Grace” and “You’re Not A Sinner Anymore.”
