Do You Love God’s Laws?

If you have not read Psalm 119 in a while, I encourage you to do so.  I’ve read it a couple times lately, and I’m inspired by the psalmist’s great adoration and love for God and His laws. He didn’t just enjoy reading God’s Word but he actually delighted in obeying it. Not because he had to but because he wanted to. He longed for that close relationship with God that only comes through complete obedience.

As we go through life, there are many things we do because we feel obligated or we don’t want to get in trouble with the law or with family and friends. This attitude is much different than embracing the laws, being thankful that they are in place, and rejoicing in the ability to do what God requires of us. I believe God wants us to take joy in obeying His commands.

As Spirit-led believers, we are no longer bound to the law (Romans 7:6), but we are still required to obey the guidelines God has outlined in His Word, and we should do them with joy. We must flee temptation and cling to that which is good. This is how to receive joy and peace beyond anything you could ever imagine.

Spend time with God. Talk to Him. Read His Word. Talk about Him.  Tell Him how much you love Him … and mean it. I can honestly say that God is the best friend I have. He is with me in the middle of the night when everyone else is asleep. He is available to listen to me every moment of the day when others are asleep. You will regret rejecting God but you will never regret walking with Him. What a precious friend is He!
