Unscripted Duets

Unscripted Duets

Over a year ago, I started working on a piano CD of 4-hand duets. I had included a 4-hand duet on a previous CD and thought a full CD of arrangements in that style might make a nice contrast to my 2013 Christmas release. I went ahead and recorded several songs in 2014, but nothing really seemed to be working. The time to do it just wasn’t right, I suppose.

A few weeks ago, I was recovering from a bout of severe tendonitis in my ankle. I thought recording some music might take my mind off of the pain even if the music that resulted didn’t work out to be something I’d want to share.

You can preview and BUY the digital version of Unscripted Duets at this link.

Around mid-day on May 30, I recorded a two-hand rhythm part on the lower end of the piano, then listened to that while I played a two-hand melody part on the upper end. I tweaked the mix on the computer a bit and decided to try another one. That song satisfied me as well, so I went ahead recorded a couple more. Before that Saturday was over, I had recorded twelve duets and had a rough mix complete. I finished the mix the following week and secured a copyright license that was required for one title. (The other eleven are in the public domain.)

Once I determined what the title was going to be, I arranged to do a photo shoot with my two-year-old nephew. I think the cover effectively conveys the idea that these piano pieces are more spontaneous than produced. The title is Unscripted Duets!

Song titles include “Higher Ground,” “Let The Lower Lights Be Burning,” “Alone In The Garden,” “The Wayfaring Stranger,” “I Don’t Want To Get Adjusted,” “Wonderful Peace,” “Is Not This The Land Of Beulah,” “The Lifeboat,” “Redeemed,” “In The Garden,” “Somebody Loves Me” and “The Unseen Hand”

To order a physical copy of the CD, send $15 (includes shipping) to 257 Lavender Road, Ellenboro, NC 28040. You can pay by check, money order or credit card. If you want to get it even quicker using your credit card, call me at my office number: 828-248-3559. I’m there between the hours of 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, Monday-Thursday. (I don’t recommend sending your credit card information by email.)

Disc LabelBONUS: When the duplication company sent out my first shipment of Unscripted Duets, they made a printing error. The image that should have been on the disc face was printed on the cover insert. They made it good by reprinting the inserts. While supplies last, you’ll get their “unscripted” cover insert when you buy the physical CD.

The cover reminds me of a Hovie Lister painting from a few years back.
