Mountain Faith Band of Sylva, NC, was introduced to the world at large via America’s Got Talent last night. They performed a cover of OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars.”

    Do you think they were told to not perform a gospel song? Most of what they’ve recorded is gospel, so it would have been nice to see that they performed something like that. I assume this “Counting Stars” is not gospel…I’ve never heard of it.

      I doubt that. Singers have been allowed to sing gospel songs on auditions in the past.

      One strategy for success on a talent competition is to take a song from a completely different genre and do it in your own style. I think that’s probably what Mountain Faith was going for with this selection.
