Donna Ulisse – Holy Waters

4 Stars

Unexpected CDs arrive in my mailbox almost every week. By and large, these unsolicited CDs range from below average to fairly good. I rarely get a CD of this type that I’d call outstanding or 5 Star quality, but from time to time I do get a 4 Star project by an artist I hadn’t heard previously. Such is the case with the new CD by Donna Ulisse. Holy Waters is a fine crafted bluegrass recording with thirteen tracks including twelve that Ulisse wrote or co-wrote. Her alto vocals have a pleasing tone quality that’s missing on many other bluegrass recordings I’ve heard. The pickers are very good, too. They’re not quite virtuosos, but they’re tight.
