CD Rated: Dixie Echoes (So Many Reasons)

RATING: 4 1/2 Stars

Website: www.dixieechoes.com
Producers: Randy Shelnut, Randy Shelnut Jr., and Stewart Varnado

Song Titles: “I’ll Be Ready To Go With Him,” “So Many Reasons,” “Miracles Will Happen On That Day,” “Until You Find The Lord,” “Not In A Million Years,” “Walk With Me,” “On The Other Side Of Jordan,” “How Big Is God,” “I’m Gonna Move To The Sky,” and “Little Is Much”

Analysis In A Nutshell: Tenor Wesley Smith still has a little too much wobble in his tone to suit my personal taste, but his style aligns with the Dixie Echoes’ style better than it did with Palmetto State’s. DE bass singer, Pat Barker, is outstanding on “Not In A Million Years” and “How Big Is God.” I hope they hang on to him. Group leaders Randy Shelnut, Randy Shelnut Jr., and Stewart Varnado continue to excel in their respective roles at lead, baritone, and piano. My favorite cuts are “I’m Gonna Move To The Sky” and “Until You Find The Lord.”

At 24 minutes, this CD is too short. I love the up-tempo cuts, though.

I doubt you’ll have the “too short” complaint about their new live CD, which I’ve yet to review. It’s over twice as long, nearly three times.
