CD Rated: Julian Saverance (Everyday Answers)

Rating: 3 Stars

Producer: Donna Beauvais

Song Titles: “Reign Down,” “For The First Time,” “You Don’t Have To Know,” “All In This Together,” “Strong Enough,” “One Day Left,” “All It Takes Is A Shout,” “All You Have To Do Is Ask,” “Everyday Grace,” “Call Of The Cross,” “Power In The Blood,” “Welcome Home,” and “Reign Down (Reprise)”

Nutshell Analysis: “I can feel you reign down from above” is a phrase I don’t get. Obviously, the “you” in that phrase is God, but “reign” sounds just like “rain” to a listener and the chorus further confuses the intention. “Let it reign down, let it reign down, reign from above. Let it reign down, let it reign down, reign down your love.” If “it” in those phrases means God’s love, then the songwriter (or whoever typed the lyrics for the CD booklet) doesn’t know how to spell “rain.” The bridge is lifted from “You Are My King,” though, so maybe he does mean “reign” in some sense. At the end of the CD, a reprise of the song returns accompanied by RAIN sound effects. Odd. Fortunately, other songs aren’t so confusing. “One Day Left” (written by Chris Binion and three members of the Crist Family) is a highlight. Production quality on this recording is good…a Christian pop vein overall. Saverance’s bright vocals suit the tracks, but could benefit from some added expression at times. When he loosens up on “All In This Together” and “Power In The Blood,” he sounds uncomfortable, but “All It Takes Is A Shout” is more successful.
