Artist: The Dills
Title: Uncommon
Rating:
4 Stars

Nutshell Analysis: This is a strong release by the Dills, an exciting up-and-coming group that consists of two brothers and their wives. The CD kicks off with an excellent version of “I Will Go The Distance,” a song popularized previously by the Martins and recorded by Clay Aiken in his pre-American Idol days. Other notable tracks include a Scott Krippayne song titled “The Closer I Get To The Cross” and two upbeat songs titled “To Worship You” and “God Will Go.” Vocally, this CD could be a bit stronger. There’s nothing I’d label as bad, but some bits come across as too “correct” or “faux-proper,” if that makes any sense. To put it another way, there are spots where the vocal rhythms could benefit from being looser and more adventurous, which would better suit this style of music. Another drawback is that some fans will probably feel shortchanged when they realize there’s only nine songs on the CD. Overall, though, this is a recording that’s definitely worth checking out.
