Nutshell Analysis: This must be the week for family group CDs. The Milby Family consists of Robin and Kathy Milby and their three daughters Tess (14), Brooke (13), and Grace (11). Unlike some family groups, though, the bulk of the Milby Family harmony comes from the three youngest members. On most tunes, it’s Brooke singing melody with Grace singing the harmony above, Tess below, and Robin adding some mostly non-prominent bass vocals. Kathy only sings harmony on one song. There’s no doubt these girls are COUNTRY. They remind me of the young Peasall Sisters. (Remember “Highways and Hedges” from the movie, O Brother, Where Art Thou?) The difference is the music production is more polished and orchestrated. Some would call them “twangy.” (Hey, I’D call them “twangy,” but not in a bad way.) I could just say they “rare back and sang,” and some of you who have heard that expression will get the idea. They have a few sound clips HERE.
